cape evans trip part deux

Some more pictures from inside Scott's hut at Cape Evans, which was his base for his 2nd & last South Pole attempt. Scott and his team made it to the Pole and then froze to death on their return to Cape Evans.

Hi All:
The killer seal AKA "sea slug" was probably about 20 feet from Paul in the cape evans part 1 post.
Not sure when the penguin was killed & frozen but the best guess is 1920-ish when the last set of explorers were at the hut before rushing off to catch a boat.
They mostly used seal blubber for fuel ! No trees, coal or other fossil fuels available in Antarctica!
:)

John and Candy,

Monica's 20 feet equals a distance of 250-300 yards in the "other" world.
The food at McMurdo Station is very good! The menu consists of regular type American food. The baked goods and the deserts are all first rate!! Sunday we have a wonderful brunch and yummy french roast coffee. Though,I do miss my Dazbog coffee.

Thanks for the photos! What's the bar scene like down there? Have you perfected your bowling game yet?

I just got back from a cold weather desert trip. It was sunny and 60 during the day. Not to rub it in.

Paul, the GFI is rockin' thanks again for your help! You have an open invitation to use the bathroom and blow dry your hair anytime!

You guys need anything? I could put together a care package of some fine cured Italian meats...

John and Clan,

Monica and I are sleeping very well during our stay. The super bright light on the way to the bathroom at 3:00 a.m. suprises me every time for some reason. I guess it's because you've been programmed that it's "dark" at night. Good and strange stuff!!

PL
